While on assignment in Tokyo in 2023, I had the chance to attend the Japanese X-Games in Chiba, just outside of Tokyo. My goal was to cover some BMX street and park riding. It was interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes at such a big event. On the downside, it took away a some of the magic. Luckily, I was able to attend some skateboarding events in between. The women’s park final took place after dark under pretty amazing lighting, giving me the backdrop to capture some gritty shots of Lizzie Armanto, Bryce Wettstein, Chris Gregson, and Hikaru Funju.
